ROADMAP TO PSYCHOEPISTEMOLOGY

A brief note on this: psychoepistemology is the relationship between your conscious and subconscious mind. The definition on Ayn Rand Lexicon reads:

“Psycho-epistemology,” a term coined by Ayn Rand, pertains not to the content of a man’s ideas, but to his method of awareness, i.e., the method by which his mind habitually deals with its content.”

Much of a person’s content is subconscious. How can you manage it in your favour?

Harry Binswanger, who has dedicated his life to this topic, advises that your conscious mind should become the CEO of your subconscious. How? When something emerges automatically from your subconscious, ask: Is this true? Is this important? Is this relevant? Is this good?

Your conscious CEO supervises the classification and proper storage of information (concepts) into your subconscious.

Your conscious mind (the CEO) is like a software developer. It writes lines of code. Your subconscious executes them. The subconscious is not a “Freudian alive entity” like a child. It is just code. The programmer —your rational neocortex — is the only part of your brain that can think independently.

The CEO judges the behaviour of employees; the programmer judges how clean the code is written.

It is recommended to read Binswanger’s How We Know and watch his videos on YouTube.
